In Floyd County Schools, we believe in providing amazing opportunities for all students and that is why we are excited about this terrific program. The Floyd County Early College Academy (FCECA) is a program designed to meet the needs of students who excel academically and who possess the personal characteristics needed to successfully attend college earlier than the traditional age. Academy students will enjoy the best of both worlds as they will be earning college credit and attending classes on a college campus while still participating in all the extra-curricular activities at their “home” high schools.
Students from all Floyd County high schools are eligible to apply through a competitive acceptance process. Students will be selected for admission during the second semester of their sophomore year and those who gain admittance will attend classes at the Big Sandy Community and Technical College in Prestonsburg. The academic program will be enhanced and rigorous with the educational goal of graduating from high school while simultaneously earning an associate degree.
Providing our students, a safe place to learn is a top priority and we understand that even our best and most mature students occasionally need guidance and support. Students attending the Academy will be under the supervision of staff from Floyd County Schools and Big Sandy Community and Technical College. Even though they are young adults, we will be close by.
